The orthodontic brackets, commonly called “braces” act like handles on the teeth. The wires, which are ligated to the brackets without external fitting or elastic element (hence the term self-ligating), apply pressure on the tooth to move it. At each appointment, the orthodontist changes the wire to apply a stronger pressure on all the teeth and to move them. It’s as simple as that !

These modern selfligating brackets facilitate hygiene by the absence of an external attachment and reduce the orthodontic treatment time by the reduction of friction between the bracket and the wire. The type of self-ligating braces that Dr Normand Bach uses (SPEED orthodontic system) is also smaller, about 1/3 smaller than traditional braces. The result is greater comfort and easier hygiene.

We can still apply different color elastics to self-ligating brackets. It is up to the patient.

The duration of treatment varies from 8 months to 3 years depending on the complexity of the case.

The appointments with Dr. Normand Bach are every 6 to 12 weeks to make adjustments, change the wires and to ensure the progress of treatment.
